World powers spread extremism in Mideast: Larijani

Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani says the policies of world powers in the Middle East have in practice contributed to the spread of extremist movements in the region.
According to the reports, in a Monday meeting with head of the Mexican Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee Gabriela Cuevas in Tehran, Larijani added that the expansion of extremism in the region is one of the main regional problems.
The top Iranian parliamentarian added: “The policies of world powers during the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan and their attitude to the Syrian crisis prepared the ground for the expansion of extremist currents in the region.”
He further pointed to the two countries’ capacities to bolster close and cordial relations and said parliamentary cooperation between the two states would play an effective role in this regard.
Larijani stated: “Cooperation between the Iranian and Mexican parliaments can be very effective in improving the level of friendly exchange by promoting a better understanding of the two countries’ capacities and views in different fields.”
The Mexican senator, for her part, called for the expansion of amicable relations with Iran, particularly in economic, cultural and scientific fields.
She added that Tehran and Mexico City enjoy great opportunities to increase joint cooperation and exchange experience in the energy sector.
