UK protesters to hold anti-govt. march

Thousands of British protesters are to gather in Manchester on Sunday to shout their opposition against the Tory-led government’s failed economic policies.

The members of the British unions will join the Trade Union Congress’s (TUC) march to be held outside the Conservative conference against the government’s attacks on the country’s public services and to show their support for the alternative.

The nation’s leading unions, including Unite, Unison, Public and Commercial Services (PCS), have insisted that the high inflation, high unemployment, benefit cuts, cuts to the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA), rising university fees and service cuts are unfair and unnecessary.

Unite General Secretary Len McCluskey said, “The deeper the cuts, the more harm this government does to our economy. Our NHS, our welfare state and our access to justice and education are all under assault from a government which has no understanding of or care for the importance of our public services to our communities.”

Insisting on the fact that the coalition has continued the cuts despite it being a disastrous failure, he stressed that the attacks are political.

“People are now questioning this government’s competence, and getting angry about the choices it is making. This protest is only the beginning. We will keep doing so until they stop this economic kamikaze mission. This chaotic coalition can destroy itself by all means, but we will not let them take our country and our services with them,” he added.
