Iran, Malaysia explore joint measures to fight illicit drugs

Iranian and Malaysian interior ministry officials in a meeting here in Tehran on Monday conferred on possible ways to remove shared concerns about drug-trafficking activities in both countries.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Malaysian Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Datuk Wira Abu Seman, Iranian Deputy Interior Minister for Security and Law Enforcement Affairs Ali Abdullahi elaborated on his talks and pointed out that the meeting was held at the request of the Malaysian side.

He said that during the meeting, he briefed the Malaysian official about Iran’s measures to prevent the Iranian drug-trafficking rings from linking their activities with their peers in the South East Asian state.

Abdullahi further pointed to the measures adopted by the two sides to fight linked activities by drug-trafficking networks in the two countries, and said, “Our friends in the Malaysian interior ministry have initiated measures and we will continue exchange of information more than before in a bid to reach our desirable results in drug-campaign,” he noted.

Abdullahi also noted the trafficking of industrial drugs from Iran’s neighboring countries, and said that Iranian and Malaysian officials discussed the issue during their meeting.

Meantime, the Iranian official stressed that the trafficking of industrial drugs from Iran has witnessed a remarkable decreased and neared Zero.

The Malaysian official, for his part, announced that the two sides have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoUs) to boost cooperation in drug-campaign and exchange of relevant information.
