Syria in Last 24 Hours: Army Repels ISIL’s Attack on Gov’t Positions in Deir Ezzur

The Syrian army soldiers repelled terrorists’ attack on their positions in Deir Ezzur province after hours of clashes, inflicting major losses on them.

The ISIL terrorists’ attack to capture the government forces’ positions in the Eastern part of Deir Ezzur city was fended off by the strong defense of the Syrian military men.

Meantime, the Syrian army and popular forces continued their military advances in other parts of Syria, including Aleppo and Sweida, over the past 24 hours.

Tens of terrorists were killed and dozens more were injured during the Syrian army’s operations in other provinces across Syria.

Deir Ezzur

The Syrian army soldiers repelled a large-scale offensive of the ISIL to prevail over the government forces’ positions in the Eastern city of Deir Ezzur and forced the terrorists to retreat from the battlefield.

The army troops completely repelled the large-scale assault of ISIL in Deir Ezzur city as militants stormed the positions of Syrian pro-government forces in the Eastern districts of the city, as well as in its Western outskirts, trying to take advantage of the sandstorm which was raging in the area.

Based on field reports, the army’s missile and artillery units shelled ISIL’s movements and managed to fend off their attack, killing almost 20 militants and wounding several more.

The artillery and missile units, meantime, pounded ISIL’s convoy of vehicles in al-Maqaber (cemetery) region and the road going to the city’s airbase, destroying a large number of their vehicles.

Aleppo

The Syrian army soldiers continued their anti-terrorism offensive in Eastern Aleppo and managed to deploy forces in positions very close to the last main ISIL stronghold in the province.

Army officers said that government troops continued to hit the positions of the ISIL in the Eastern part of Aleppo, capturing more areas in the course of military operation to liberate Maskana plain.

They added that the Syrian soldiers, backed by heavy artillery and airstrikes, continued to purge ISIL terrorists of Eastern Aleppo and managed to recapture more grounds en-route to the strategic region of Maskana.

After recapturing al-Samlajiyah village, al-Khazim fuel station and Tal Fiddah, the pro-government forces managed to break through ISIL’s defense lines and are now in position to enter Maskana plains which has been an ISIL stronghold for nearly two years.

A field sources pointed to the rapid advances of the army men in Eastern Aleppo and said that the army units are only 10km away from the strategic town of Maskana.

The sources added that liberation of Maskana means an end to ISIL’s presence in Aleppo province and will open a new gate for the pro-government forces towards Raqqa province.

Homs

The Syrian Army troops continued their advances against the ISIL Northeast of the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur) and managed to capture several hills en route to the oil and gas-rich regions.

The army men engaged in fierce clashes with ISIL in Eastern Homs and managed to advance against the terrorists towards Arak energy region, taking control of several hills that cover an area 3km in length.

In the meantime, the army’s artillery and missile units pounded ISIL’s movements and positions near the village of al-Moshayrefeh al-Janoubi, Mahmiyeh al-Talileh and towards Arak oilfield, killing and wounding a number of terrorists and destroying their military vehicles.

Raqqa

The predominately Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) continued the fourth phase of the anti-ISIL Euphrates Rage Operation in Western Raqqa and deployed forces only 2km away from one of the largest dams in the war-hit country.

The SDF fighters engaged in fierce clashes with ISIL in Western Raqqa and drove the terrorists out of the villages of al-Salhibiyeh al-Qarbi and al-Salhibiyeh al-Sharqi, deploying forces only 2km away from al-Ba’ath Dam that is one of the largest dams in the country.

In the meantime, the Kurdish fighters managed to advance against ISIL in the village of Hamrat Nasri in Eastern countryside of Raqqa.

Sweida

The Syrian Army troops continued their anti-terrorism operation in Eastern Sweida and managed to push more towards al-Tanf border-crossing in Southern Homs to foil a US-led plan for occupying the Southern part of the country.

The army men, who captured al-Zalaf dam and its surrounding regions yesterday, continued their advances in Badiyeh (desert) al-Sham and managed to take control over the entire al-Rasiyee wells in al-Zalaf region.

The army soldiers also pushed terrorists back from al-Bohouth al-Elmiyeh region Northeast of the Palmyra Triangle Northeast of al-Seen airport.

In the meantime, Turki Saqa, a Syrian political analyst pointed to the army’s control over al-Zalaf dam, saying the army’s advances in Eastern Sweida will assist the pro-government forces to gain the upper hand in the Southern battlefields because the dam is built in a strategic region only 30km away from the borders with Jordan.

He further underlined that the army’s recent achievements will close off the path on the militants and their backers near the Jordanian borders to have a supply line towards the Central parts of Syria via the Southern territories of the war-hit country.
