Key rebel supply route cutoff by the Syrian Army in Greater Damascus

Tal-Kurdi

The Syrian Arab Army’s 102nd Brigade of the Republican Guard – backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF) – cutoff a key rebel supply route on Monday that links the towns of Tal Kurdi and Tal Sawwan in the East Ghouta (collection of farms in rural Damascus).

According to an Al-Masdar correspondent in Damascus City, the Syrian Armed Forces were able to capture the storage area between Tal Kurdi and Tal-Sawwan after a violent battle with the extremist rebels of Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) and Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group). This is an important area because the rebel supply route begins at the nearby town of Mayda’; if lost, they would be completely besieged in the East Ghouta and forced to rely on their current provisions.

More importantly, the capture of the storage area on Monday will now give the Syrian Armed Forces the upper-hand at Tal Kurdi because the extremist rebels will not have a way to resupply their fighters there. In the coming days, the Syrian Armed Forces are expected to intensify their assault against the extremist rebels as they begin to target hot-zones like Douma, Jobar, and ‘Ayn Tarma.
