Lankarani calls for massive voter turnout in June election

pirhayati20130507130843903Iran presidential hopeful, Kamran Baqeri Lankarani, has called on Iranians to turn out massively in the June 14 presidential election.

He made the remark in an interview after signing up to run for president at the Interior Ministry in Tehran on Tuesday.

Lankarani noted that the most important issue regarding the polls is the people’s turnout.

The former health minister pointed out that his top priority will be to focus on the well-being of the underprivileged groups if he becomes president.

Lankarani, nominated by the principlist Perseverance Front, has promised that effective management would top the agenda of his administration should he win the presidential vote.

Lankarani has also vowed to select highly competent figures from different political fronts as his ministers.

Registration of hopefuls for Iran’s 11th presidential election officially began on Tuesday, and hopefuls have five days, until May 11, to sign up for the presidential vote.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election, and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for their qualifications.
