Latest Developments in the east Daraa battle

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) began their long-awaited offensive in southwest Syria last week, striking the northeastern countryside of Daraa in their first major attack.

What started off as heavy shelling and airstrikes would soon become an all-out ground assault by the Syrian Arab Army in the Al-Lajat region, which is situated along the Daraa-Sweida provincial axis.

During the first few days of the offensive, the Syrian Arab Army managed to capture at least seven towns from the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham in the Al-Lajat region.

The Syrian Army’s advance would pave the way for their troops to fully secure northwest Al-Sweida for the first time since the start of the armed conflict inside southern Syria.

Following this advance, the jihadist rebels were forced to accept a deal that would see their troops withdraw from the Al-Lajat region to the strategic town of Busra Al-Harir.

However, their reign over Busra Al-Harir would come to an end yesterday morning, when the Tiger Forces managed to fracture their lines and seize the entire town from Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

The Syrian Army would capitalize on this frantic retreat by the jihadist rebels in order to quickly take control of the neighboring towns of Nahitah and Madajin.

As a result of this major advance, the Syrian Army has taken control of more than 420 square kilometers of territory, which was the entire rebel presence in northeast Daraa.

The Syrian Army is now working to capture the key town of Al-Hirak, which is the gateway to southeast Daraa.
