Leader deplores enemy plots, urges vigilance

Addressing the Assembly of Experts today, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei spoke of the “strengths and optimism in the Islamic system and its solid stature,” while pointing out the “sophistication and extensiveness in planning by the enemy in the current situation.”

Ayatollah Khamenei elaborated on the “different aspects and the main lines of the plotting by the opponents of the Islamic Republic system in their soft warfare,” and emphasized on the importance of exercising awareness, possessing insight and courage as well as maintaining unity in dealing with the new plots and tactics.

“The Islamic system has a 30-years experience in confronting different challenges, but, in view of the development in the system and the complexity of its achievements, its opponents’ conspiracies and plots have also become more complex. Thus, its diverse aspects must be identified in order to overcome them,” added the Leader.

Ayatollah Khamenei described the likelihood for an outbreak of a war as very thin at the present, and opined: “At the present time, the enemy has come to combat the Islamic system through a psychological scheme, which is called a soft war, and the main aim of the enemy is the transformation of the strong points and the opportunities in the system to the weak points and the threats.”

“In their soft war, the opponents of the system have made use of an overwhelming amount of propaganda and telecommunications tools to attack the beliefs, the power of discernment, the motivation, and the foundations and pillars of a system and the country,” the Leader continued.

“Countering such plots requires an intelligent and vigilant presence on the scene of events, together with prudence,” said the leader. “Of course, such presence will bring along the Divine Assistance.”

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution then elaborated on the enemy’s main tactics and plots in the soft war against the Islamic system, and added: “The impairment of optimism and the signs of hope and transforming them into pessimism and doubt”, and indoctrinating people into seeing themselves at a dead-end or showing things in a bad light, and ultimately “taking away the society’s poise and drive, is one of the methods of the enemy.”

“The 85 percent turnout of the people in the presidential election and the declaration of this affirmation and affection for the Islamic system after 30 years, as well as the election of the president with such a high and unprecedented vote is one of our great strengths.” The opponents of the system, however, “are making efforts to transform this virtue into a source of doubt and pessimism.”

The Leader considered that there are numerous grounds for hope in the country and added: “The solid infrastructure and the country’s preparedness for a leap forward, significant scientific progress, the system’s 30-year experience, an energetic, educated and self-confident young generation, and the [20-year strategic] plan defining the movement of the country towards its horizons until 2026, are all outstanding peaks which the opponents of the Islamic Republic want to transform into weaknesses and glumness with the depiction of things in a bad light and a dead-end.”

According to the Leader, attempting to sow discord among the different sectors of the society is yet another tactic of the enemy’s soft warfare against us.

“Today, the signs of public unity and empathy among the people are visible, the manifestations of which include the presence of the people in the Friday prayers during the holy month of Ramadan, the big turnout in the Qods (Jerusalem) Day rallies, and their grand presence during the the Eid al-Fitr prayers [marking the end of Ramadan] throughout the country,” stressed the Leader.

“Is it possible to ignore the enemy’s pleasure about certain issues and events after the election, and then fake ignorance (about the matter)?” The British government, the leader said, “with its black record vis-à-vis Iran for 200 years, and also the US government and certain other governments praise some individuals and claim that we support the Iranian nation, while the people are a part of the Islamic system. Therefore, we must not lose sight of (the extent) of the opposition’s hostility (in their efforts) to plan conspiracies and sow discord.”

Ayatollah Khamenei advised the elite and the “select” in the society as well as the political movements to strengthen [their] insights and asked: “While the enemy was present, overtly and without any disguise, in the post-election street disturbances, how is it possible to deny this manifested presence?”

“Therefore, insight is very important, as its presence in individuals will cause changes in the conduct of many,” the Leader added.

Stressing that the post-election disturbances were fully pre-planned, Ayatollah Khamenei added: “Thanks to the Grace of God, this conspiracy was defeated and the enemy’s arrow ricocheted towards themselves.”

“After the passage of 30 years, Iran’s Islamic Revolution is very strong and firm, and one can see the [part played by] the Divine Power in this too. But God’s Grace applies so long as all of us remain sincere in the service of the revolution and its aims, and not to resent any efforts along this path,” the Leader extolled those present.

Ayatollah Khamenei expressed his felicitation and condolences on the occasion of the martyrdom of the Mamousta Mullah Mohammad Sheikh ul-Islam, the representative from Kurdistan Province to the Assembly of Experts [who was assassinated on September 17], and added: “The loss of this learned man, who preached unity and believed in the fundamentals of the system, was injurious, but those who committed this crime must know that this terrorist and violent act will lead nowhere, and the aims of the opponents will not be realized.

“The source of this crime is definitely abroad and within the enemies’ espionage agencies. But, without a doubt, the Sunni seminarians and the Kurdish people will continue this revered martyr’s path with a greater enthusiasm.”

The 88-member Assembly of Experts is an elected body with the power to appoint the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

It is headed by the former president Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani. Speaking before the Leader, he expressed appreciation for the meeting between the assembly’s members and the Leader and said: “The recent session of the Assembly of Experts, despite the recent events, was very satisfactory and good debates were conducted.”
