Iran’s VP calls Qatar visit fruitful

Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi says his two-day visit to Qatar for talks with the country’s senior officials were “fruitful and beneficial.”

“The visit was very successful and we are optimistic that both countries will benefit from its outcomes,” ISNA quoted Rahimi as saying on his arrival to the Iranian capital of Tehran from Qatar on Tuesday morning.

He added that during the visit he held talks with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber bin Muhammad Al Thani and Crown Prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and reached agreements on further expanding mutual relations.

The senior Iranian official said the Qatari emir urged officials of his country to make efforts aimed at promoting economic and political ties with the Islamic Republic.

Rahimi noted that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had also stressed the importance of bolstering economic cooperation with Qatar to the same level as existing political ties between the two nations.

The Iranian vice president pointed out that the two countries also reached agreements in the fields of commerce, trade and customs.

Rahimi arrived in Doha on Sunday, leading a high-ranking economic delegation for a two-day tour of Qatar, at the official invitation of its crown prince.

The two countries’ officials also discussed latest regional developments and reiterated the need to speed up implementation of forged agreements and joint projects.

The Iranian vice president also held meetings with Iranian businessmen residing in Qatar as well as Qatari tradesmen and economic activists.
