Ex-ambassador: Turkish daily ‘Zaman’ spewing false stories on Iran

Bahman Hosseinpour
Iran’s former ambassador to Turkey has said that Turkish daily Zaman has published false and baseless stories about Iran.
In his last press conference with Turkish reporters after four years as Iran’s Ambassador to Turkey, Bahman Hosseinpour said that ‘Zaman’, Turkish daily, spewed false story about Iran. The conference was intense with the ambassador and some Turkish reporters fighting verbally.

Hosseinpour embarked on a harsh criticism of ‘Zaman’ newspaper as its reporter asked his question.

“Iran’s embassy has sent disclaimers to the newspaper, but they had not published any of those disclaimers out of the lack of journalistic ethics,” he asserted. “The embassy knows very well where the source of orders is for ‘Zaman’.”

Ex-ambassador pointed to attempts to sow discord between Iran and Turkey, and addressed the reporters and said “if you want good relations between Iran and Turkey, be cautious with your pens [writing].” After that, ‘Zaman’ reporter left the conference as protesting the ex-ambassador’s remarks.

“When I came to Turkey as Iran’s ambassador, I promised Mr. Abdullah Gül, Prime Minister that gas from Iran would never be cut, and now I am pleased that I have fulfilled my promise,” Hosseinpour said.

The Ambassador said: “Iran and Turkey are important countries in the region, and despite differences between the two countries’ positions on Syrian crisis, our relations should not be tense,” and added:“Iran, Turkey, and Egypt will come together in near future for solving Syrian crisis.”

On the other hand the Turkish daily ‘Zaman’ is well known for its adoration to Great Satan US.
