Office of the Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei announced Thursday as the first day of fasting month of Ramadan.

After sighting the crescent moon, the Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei through his office announced Thursday as the start of Muslims’ holy month of Ramadan.

The holy fasting month of Ramadan starts in Iran Thursday (June 18) and will last for 30 days this year.

The advent of Ramadan may vary from country to country depending on the situation of the moon. Since the new moon is not in the same state at the same time globally, the beginning and ending dates of Ramadan depend on what lunar sightings receive in each location.

As a result, Ramadan dates vary in different countries, but usually only by a day.
