Iran, Iraq navies sign cooperation agreement

The navies of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and Iraq in Tehran on Monday signed an agreement to expand bilateral military cooperation between the two countries.

According to Fars news agency, the agreement was signed by the IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi and Commander of the Iraqi Navy Admiral Ali Hussain Ali.
The document calls for expansion of cooperation in the fields of scientific research, exchange of experiments and holding training courses between the two countries’ navies.
Fadavi also called for enhancing cooperation between the two naval forces aimed at fostering the regional security and tranquility.
The Iraqi official, for his part, voiced his country’s willingness to expand mutual cooperation between the two navies.
In recent years, Iran Navy has been increasing its presence in international waters to protect naval routes and provide security for Iranian merchant vessels and tankers.
The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other nations, especially its neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
