Mikdad: We will not allow U.S. or any other to determine Syria’s future

20140202-102624_h525625Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Faisal Mikdad, stressed that the coalition delegation of the so-called ‘opposition’ did not have a nationalistic sense, rather it represented a group of agents that work for foreign powers.

“I was not surprised of such a decadency they showed, which does not get along with the core of Geneva,” Mikdad said in an interview with al-Ikhbariya TV on Saturday.

“The Syrian official delegation expressed readiness to discuss all aspects of Geneva1 while the other delegation showed decadency and lied to the Syrian people,” Mikdad said, shouldering it the responsibility of non-reaching any outcomes, having rejected the axiomatic principles of Syria’s unity, independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and working for restoring the occupied territories.

“The Syrian official delegation, on the other hand, went to Geneva to make the conference a success through halting the bloodshed, preventing foreign interference and combating terrorism,” Mikdad said, adding that the conference constituted an opportunity for Syria to express the reality of the events taking place for three years.

“We did not evade discussing Geneva1 Communiqué at all…we said that we will discuss it starting from the first point, i.e. violence and terrorism cessation, and then we will move to the other points…we are ready to that, as we have our files and documents,” Deputy Foreign Minister clarified.

Mikdad said that the Russian friends had an accurate understanding of the article related to ‘the transitional body. ” They (the Russians) answered the former U.S. Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, who said following the conference that the goal of the conference is changing the regime in Syria, through the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov saying ” We did not agree on that at all, rather we have agreed that the conference should be a chance for the Syrians to discuss and agree on everything related to Syria’s present and future.”

Mikdad stressed that the other side came to Geneva only for one item, which is the transitional body, but we, in Syria, do not deal with our country as strangers, stressing “we will not allow any side to choose Syria’s leadership or future on behalf of the Syrian people.”

Mikdad pointed out that the coalition delegation called the opposition rejected to condemn terrorism which kills the Syrians, stressing that its main concern has been dominating the authority in Syria.

” The US decision to continue arming the armed terrorist groups in Syria was a gift for Geneva conference for undermining it and foiling the efforts of the political solution,” he said.

The Deputy Foreign Minister went on saying that Washington knows that all the weapons, ammunition and equipment which it sent to its agents in Syria reached to the hands of the so-called the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham and al-Qaeda-linked Jabhat al-Nusra.

Mikdad added the Americans asked to meet us , but we ignored them completely as we feel that there is no justification for this meeting in the framework of the US offensive policies against Syria.

He asserted that if the US wants to be harmonious with the minimum ethical values, it should allow the national opposition to take part in the upcoming round of talks.

He pointed out that the other side failed to deliver any message to the Syrian people or the public opinion as it was depending on pieces of papers which were dictated to it by the Americans, Britons and French.

Mikdad hailed the role of the Syrian national media which proved during the past few days that it is a struggler, honorable, honest and responsible as it represents the conscious of the Syrian citizens despite the international pressures an inhuman sanctions.

He held Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu responsible for shedding the Syrian blood, calling for holding them accountable.

Mikdad hailed the Syrian people’s steadfastness and sacrifices of the Syrian army in defending Syria’s unity, sovereignty and dignity.

The Deputy Foreign Minister concluded by saying that we tell the US, Israel and their agents in the region that Syria’s people, army and leadership decided to keep steadfast and continue struggling to preserve Syria’s sovereignty, dignity and the dignity of all the Arab peoples and the developing countries everywhere in this world.
