Most Americans dislike Wall Street: Poll

A recent poll indicates that majority of Americans are dissatisfied with the Wall Street bankers, as protests against social and economic inequalities continue in the US.

The poll was jointly conducted by CNN and ORC (Opinion Research Corporation) International with 1,007 Americans participating in it between October 14-16.

Two-thirds of the respondents believed the bankers were dishonest, while seventy-seven percent thought the bankers earned too much money. Eight out of ten of those questioned said they believed Wall Street bankers were greedy.

There have recently been widespread rallies and protests across the US against social injustice and poverty in the country. The protests have developed into a movement called The Occupy Wall Street.

The movement is urging protesters to close their bank accounts and transfer their money to credit unions, a move that is due to culminate with a Bank Transfer Day on November 5.

Thirty-two percent of American respondents say they have a favorable view of the ‘Occupy’ movement, the poll showed.

The US government is blamed for bailouts and the widening gap between the rich and the poor.

According to the poll, more than 50 percent of Americans have no confidence whatsoever in the nation’s financial centers.
