Mount Sinabung Volcano Spread Avalanche of Volcanic Material

Mount Sinabung Volcano in western Indonesia that has been spewing clouds of searing gas into the air over the past few weeks let out a new powerful avalanche of volcanic material on Thursday.
The volcano spewed clouds of gas as high as one kilometre into the air, whilst volcanic material continued to slide as far as 3 kilometres towards the southeast.
Villages with a radius of more than 25 kilometres from the volcano experienced ashfall.
The 2,600-metre Mount Sinabung, in North Sumatra, has sporadically erupted since 2010, after being dormant for 400 years.
It’s among about 130 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an arc of volcanoes and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin.
