At least two civilians have lost their lives and 11 others suffered injuries in a car bomb explosion in Afghanistan’s northern city of Kunduz.

The Wednesday morning blast happened when a police vehicle was passing by an explosives-laden car near the hospital in Kunduz, said Sayed Sarwar Hussaini, a spokesman for the local police chief, adding that no police officers were wounded in the raid.

No group or individual has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, though the Taliban militant group is often blamed for such assaults.

Indiscriminate bombings of this kind are great menaces to both Afghan security forces and civilians across the country.

Taliban militants began their so-called spring offensive across the war-torn country in late April. During the offensive, they intensify their terrorist attacks against the government as well as civilian targets.

Afghanistan has experienced deadly attacks since 2001, when the US and its allies invaded the country as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. The military aggression removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continues in the war-ravaged country despite the presence of thousands of US-led troops.
