FM: Iran ready to help friends on fight against terrorism

Visiting Foreign Minister of Iran Mohmmad Javad Zarif on Tuesday evening voiced Tehran’s readiness to cooperate with its friend countries on their anti-terror and anti-violence campaign.

Zarif made the remarks in a meeting with his counterpart from Burundi Laurent Kavakure. The Iranian minister arrived in Burundi Tuesday afternoon for an official visit on the third leg of his African tour which has already taken him to Kenya and Uganda respectively.

The Iranian minister is to travel to Tanzania at the end of his visit to Burundi.

In his meeting with Kavakure, Zarif said his visit aimed at boosting bilateral relations and regional cooperation between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the foreign minister of Burundi, for his part, called for continuation and promotion of Tehran- Bujumbura cooperation in educational, economic, industrial and scientific fields as was stressed in the previously signed agreements between the two countries.

Referring to the activities of terrorist groups in Africa, Kavakure stressed the need for bilateral as well as collective cooperation against terrorism.

Kavakure has later in the day held a dinner banquet in Zarifˈs honor during which the former appreciated Iran for sending humanitarian aid to Burundi and for assisting the African country with educational, health and technical helps.

Burundi located in the center of Africa and is a neighbor to Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Tanzania.
