Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi says the best way to meet the demands of Syrians and to see democracy established in the Arab country is national dialogue.

In a Saturday meeting with the UN-Arab League Special Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi in Munich, Salehi urged all states to work towards ending the conflict and preventing opposition groups from destroying the country’s infrastructure.

In a separate meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Salehi outlined Iran’s six-point plan for peace in Syria.

Salehi said the stability and security of Syria is linked to that of regional countries, stressing the need to prevent growth of extremism in Syria.

Mikati, for his part, described Iran’s efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis as important and expressed hope that Salehi would visit Lebanon in the near future.

In December 2012, Iran unveiled the details of the six-point plan to resolve the ongoing crisis in Syria, which calls for an immediate end to all violence.

The plan calls for sending humanitarian aid to Syrians following the end of all conflicts, lifting all economic sanctions imposed against the country, and facilitating the return of displaced Syrians.

It also urges talks between the Syrian government and the representatives of all Syrian groups regardless of their political and social tendencies in order to form a national reconciliation committee.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of security forces, have been killed in the turmoil that Damascus says is being orchestrated from outside the country.
