Ayatollah Makarem slams insult to Sistani

Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi on Wednesday condemned insult to Iraqi Shii religious aythority, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali al-Sistani.

The Alim criticized the Saudi Arabian scholar as well as the country’s press insult to Ayatollah Sistani and said,” Ayatollah Sistani is a prominent figure in the Shii world and insult to him means disrespecting all Shiis and the Islamic Republic.”

Ayatollah Makarem said that according to holy verses, no one has right to insult persons who pray towards Kiblah.

In a Friday sermon in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, a leading Wahhabi cleric, Mohammad al-Ureifi, called Ayatollah al-Sistani an “atheist and debauched.”

World scholars as well as a galaxy of Saudi preachers and scholars has spoken out against the move.
