New sanctions against Iran show US ‘aggressive posture’

340061_Don DeBarThe United States has taken an “aggressive posture” towards Iran by imposing further sanctions against the country, an American journalist says.

“There is some sort of an aggressive posture being taken by the US across the world right now and the situation with Iran unfortunately is just one of the tegs on the board they’re playing with,” Don DeBar told Press TV on Saturday.

“It seems that the administration has several opinions about a variety of things that are happening in the world right now. Iran and the issue of sanctions and the alleged bugaboo about [its] nuclear program that everyone in the world knows, including Washington, there is not a military program,” he said.

Iran and six world powers reached an interim agreement in Geneva last month. The six-month accord lays the groundwork for a comprehensive resolution to the West’s dispute with Iran over its nuclear energy program.

On Thursday, the Obama administration which was firm against further sanctions by Congress, announced new sanctions against a number of companies and individuals for “providing support for” Iran’s nuclear energy program.

Tehran said the new restrictions are in full contradiction of the Geneva accord under which the US made a commitment not to impose new sanctions on Iran.

DeBar said that the White House has made a decision to “sabotage” the nuclear negotiations.

“The honest negotiations that were taking place are apparently being sabotaged and this decision has been made at the White House and it makes it less optimistic in terms of there being an agreement than people, and myself included, were a few weeks ago,” he said.
