Iraq’s Prosecutor Launches Probe Into Former Prime Minister Kadhimi’s Involvement in General Soleimani’s Killing

An investigation into former Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi's involvement in the US killing of Iranian anti-terror commander General Qassem Soleimani has been ordered by the head of Iraq's public prosecution office.

On Sunday, documents issued by the head of the public prosecution’s office on April 4 were revealed, revealing that the prosecutor general had instructed the Federal Court – which investigates all criminal offenses – to take legal action on a complaint filed against al-Kadhimi, and to report the results to his office. Shafaq News reported this.

Hossein Monis, the head of Harakat Huqooq (Rights Movement), has filed a complaint with the court against al-Kadhimi, who was previously the intelligence chief. Harakat Huqooq is the political wing of the Iraqi anti-terror group Kata’ib Hezbollah.

Adel Abdul-Mahdi Al-Kadhimi, the Prime Minister of Iraq from May 2020 to October 2022, is being charged with “negligence” that allegedly caused the US assassination of General Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), plus their associates, on January 3, 2020.

The two anti-terror commanders were highly esteemed throughout the area for their significant contribution in combating and weakening the Daesh Takfiri extremist group in the area, particularly in Iraq and Syria.
