Aussie soldiers shot in Afghanistan

At least two Australian soldiers have been injured in an attack by Taliban militants in the south Afghanistan province of Uruzgan, local officials say.

The soldiers were diffusing an explosive device in the provincial capital of Trinkut on Friday when they came under attack, a Press TV correspondent reported, quoting local officials.

This year has been the deadliest on record for foreign troops in Afghanistan. So far, 21 Australian soldiers have been killed in the war-torn country and around 170 others have been injured.

Australia has stationed about 1,550 troops in the restive southern province.

The increasing number of casualties and the leak of thousands of US military documents regarding the war in Afghanistan has drastically reduced public support for the Afghan war across Europe and the US.

More than 150,000 US-led soldiers are fighting Taliban militants in Afghanistan.

The US military adventurism in Afghanistan comes as the United Nations announced recently that Afghan civilian deaths had soared by over 30 percent in 2010 compared to the same period last year.
