Three people have been shot dead and several more injured in Pennsylvania after a gunman opened fire during a board supervisors’ meeting, officials said.

Two men died at the scene and one who was helicoptered out later died. At least three people are in critical condition.

According to Monroe County emergency management director Guy Miller, a gunman opened fire Monday evening at a regular monthly town meeting at Ross Township.

Miller told The Associated Press that the suspect was captured and is in police custody.

A reporter said the gunman shot through the wall with an automatic pistol outfitted with a scope.

“I saw smoke and plaster flying out, blowing out through the walls,” Pocono Record reporter Chris Reber said.

Ross Township, with a population of 6,000 people, is located in Monroe County in Western Pennsylvania.

Experts blame US media for the high rate of crimes in the country.

“The American media and particularly Hollywood and television have become the new church for America, they have become the new classroom for Americans, especially young people, and this is where their values are formed,” Mark Glenn told Press TV on Monday.

He said that the problem surrounding gun ownership in the United States is that American people are addicted to the violence.
