Pakistan appoints caretaker prime minister

Pakistan has appointed a former judge as caretaker prime minister to lead the country through its momentous parliamentary election period.

Fakhruddin Ebrahim, the head of the election commission said on Sunday in Islamabad: “We have picked Mir Hazar Khan Khoso after frankly and openly discussing all the four names forwarded to us.”
The Election Commission of Pakistan chose Khoso, 84, out of four candidates, two nominated by the recently ruling Pakistan People’s Party and two by the main opposition Pakistan Muslim League-N.
Khoso served as the chief justice to the high court in the troubled southwestern province of Balochistan and also temporarily worked as the acting governor of the province.
Pakistan will hold parliamentary election on May 11.
After his appointment, Khoso told reporters in Islamabad that the election will be held according to the announced schedule and that fair and free vote is his top priority.
He added: “I will try my best to come up to the expectations of people.”
