Pakistani Shia mourners chant slogans to pledge their allegiance to Imam Hussein, their third Imam who was killed in 680 AD after an unequal battle against the forces of Tyrant of his time, Yazid. Imam Hussein was martyred in Battle of Karbala on the day of Ashura after refusing to pledge allegiance to Yazid.
Hussain ibn-e-Ali who taught a lesson of fighting for justice, equality and resistance against tyranny some 1400 years ago, once-again brought these followers here deifying all terror threats. Beating their chests and reciting elegies, the mourners also condemn the ongoing atrocities in Iraq and Syria at the hands of what they call the US and Israeli proxies in shape of ISIL. Taking the message from the family of Prophet Muhammad and Imam Hussain, the Karachi chapter of the global social campaign “Who is Hussain” has organized a cleanliness drive in the city at the procession routs. This year in clear defiance of ISIL-led terror threat in Iraq, large bus-caravans of pilgrims from Pakistan joined their fellow mourners in Karbara, covering thousands of miles and braving the most dangerous routs through Baluchistan all the way to Iraq. Also flights for Najaf and Baghdad were packed with Arbaeen pilgrims in a show of solidarity with Iraqis who are struggling with the challenge of terrorism.
