FM Zarif’s Pakistan visit to boost economic ties: Iran envoy

Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan says Iranian Foreign Minister’s visit to Islamabad will provide an opportunity to explore ways and means to further strengthen cooperation between Iran and Pakistan in diverse areas of mutual interest, particularly expanding bilateral trade.

In an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Mehdi Honardoost said that the three day-long visit by Mohammad Javad Zarif is being carried out in response to the visit of Pakistan Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif to Tehran in September last year.

He added that high ranking Pakistani officials will receive Zarif and his 30 member delegation upon their arrival at Islamabad Airport.

He said that during the visit, Zarif will participate in the meeting of Iran-Pakistan Joint Business Forum in Islamabad.

The Iranian foreign minister will hold meetings with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and his Pakistani counterpart Khawaja Asif, and Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal during his stay in Islamabad.

He will also address a seminar on ’70 Years of Pakistan-Iran Relations and Future Prospects’ at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI).

Honardoost said Zarif will also hold meetings with Pakistan Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

He will leave for Karachi on March 13 along with his delegation, where he will participate in a meeting of Iran-Pakistan Joint Economic Forum and will also pay a visit to the mausoleum of founder of Pakistan Muhammad Ali Jinnah (Quaid-e-Azam), said the envoy.
