Pezeshkian states Iran aims to foster peace within the region as Iraq experiences stability following the defeat of Daesh
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that the Islamic Republic is committed to promoting peace, stability, and security across the region. He noted that Iraq, a neighboring nation, is currently undergoing a phase of stability and development following the defeat of the Takfiri terrorist group, Daesh.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has affirmed that the Islamic Republic is committed to fostering peace, stability, and security across the region. He highlighted the notable progress in Iraq, which is currently witnessing a phase of stability and growth following the defeat of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.
During a press conference following his meeting with Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani in Tehran, Pezeshkian addressed the media.
The President of Iran has emphasized the significance of the Iraqi Republic as a key nation in the region and a strategic ally of Tehran. He expressed satisfaction with the current strength of bilateral ties, noting that the relationship is flourishing at its highest level. Additionally, he highlighted the ongoing expansion of collaborative efforts across multiple sectors.
The aircraft carrying Sudani arrived in Tehran on Wednesday, where he was formally received by Finance Minister Abdol-Nasser Hemmati.
Subsequently, he held a meeting with Pezeshkian at the Sa’ad Abad Historical and Cultural Complex located in the capital.
Sudani stated that his visit is aimed at broadening the scope of bilateral cooperation and enhancing communication between the two nations.
He praised the positive results of Pezeshkian’s visit to Iraq, which included talks covering a spectrum of economic, developmental, social, religious, and contractual issues.
The upcoming visit is a reciprocal gesture following Pezeshkian’s journey to Iraq last year. During his previous visit, he toured key locations including Baghdad, the sacred cities of Karbala and Najaf, the southern city of Basra, and the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region.
Sudan’s recent visit to Iran occurs amidst unfolding instability in Syria, a neighboring country to Iraq, following the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad and the subsequent ascension of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). Meanwhile, Iran has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing the legal and judicial investigation into the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani.
Sudani is currently in Iran as the two nations continue to address the 2020 assassination of Iran’s former top anti-terror commander, General Qassem Soleimani, by the United States.
Iraq is actively combating terrorism perpetrated by groups supported by Western nations and Israel, while simultaneously insisting on the withdrawal of U.S. and coalition forces from its territory. This demand aligns with the Iraqi parliament’s resolution following the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani.
