Pezeskhian: US seeking a capitulation instead of pursuing diplomatic negotiations

President Masoud Pezeshkian has asserted that the United States is not pursuing diplomatic negotiations with Iran, but rather aims for Iran to acquiesce to Washington's demands.

During a public address in Bushehr Province, located in southern Iran, on Thursday, the Iranian President raised doubts about the true motives of US President Donald Trump.

President Pezeshkian emphasized that while the notion of negotiation is not dismissed, it is contradictory for former President Trump to both impose extensive sanctions and propose diplomatic talks. He questioned the logic behind such actions, highlighting the detrimental effect of restricting essential supplies such as food, water, and medicine.

He stated, “They are not interested in negotiations; their aim is to have us yield to their demands. However, we will not be coerced into submission.”

The president expressed confidence that the Iranian people possess the capability to overcome challenges through self-reliance and a strategic plan.

He asserted that adversaries would not obstruct their progress, affirming their determination to forge ahead regardless of challenges.

On Wednesday, President Pezeshkian emphasized that the future of Iran should not be contingent upon external influences. He called on the nation’s youth to develop skills and cultivate the determination necessary to overcome challenges and drive progress within the country.

On February 5, former President Donald Trump issued a presidential memorandum to reinstate the “maximum pressure” strategy against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Prior to this move, Trump had expressed a strong interest in engaging in negotiations and securing an agreement with Iran. During his first term, Trump withdrew the United States from a multinational accord previously established with the nation.

President Pezeshkian has criticized former President Donald Trump for actions that he claims are inconsistent with his public statements. Meanwhile, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, has expressed that entering into negotiations with Trump’s administration would be both imprudent and dishonorable.
