The Syrian Arab Army’s 102nd and 416th brigades of the Republican Guard continued to besiege the Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) militants that were entrenched at the farms surrounding the Marj Al-Sultan Military Airport in the East Ghouta region of Greater Damascus on Friday.

According to an Al-Masdar correspondent in the Syrian capital, the Syrian Arab Army’s Republican Guard – backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Palestine Liberation Army (PLA) – imposed full control over the small village of Hawash Al-Mutayn and the ‘Ali Al-Aghawani Farms after a violent battle with Jabhat Al-Nusra.

Following the capture of the aforementioned sites, the Syrian Armed Forces advanced to the East Ghouta corn farms, where they were confronted by a large Jabhat Al-Nusra contingent. Not long after entering the corn farms, the Syrian Armed Forces would seize the area, killing several enemy combatants and seizing 2 bulldozers from Jabhat Al-Nusra. As a result of their gains on Friday, the Syrian Armed Forces were able to widen the gap between the two rebel pockets in the East Ghouta, leaving several enemy combatants trapped near Deir Asafeer.

Despite claims by the opposition that the Syrian Armed Forces are violating the ceasefire agreement, the latter is specifically targeting Jabhat Al-Nusra, which does not breach the cessation of hostilities agreement.
