Iranian bid final farewell to victims of terror attack on Shah Cheragh shrine

On Sunday morning, high-ranking government and military officials together with people from all walks of life attended a major ceremony at the holy shrine in the provincial capital of Shiraz.

Participants held congregational prayers led by Ayatollah Lotfollah Dejkam – Representative of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in Fars Province and Shiraz Friday Prayer Leader, before six of the victims were laid to rest.

A similar procession was also staged in the nearby city of Yasuj, the hometown of two other victims.

On Saturday, thousands of mourners took part in a mourning ceremony in the northeastern city of Mashhad, which houses the mausoleum of the eighth Shia Imam, Ali ibn Musa al-Reza (PBUH), to say farewell to the victims of the terrorist attack in Shiraz.

A heavily-armed terrorist assaulted the well-known shrine at approximately 5:45 p.m. local time (1415 GMT) on Wednesday, just before the evening prayers,  killing 15 pilgrims — including a lady and two children — and injuring at least 40 others.

The attacker opened fire indiscriminately on visitors within the shrine, according to the police commander of Fars province. The perpetrator was wounded and later succumbed to his wounds in hospital.

The Daesh Takfiri terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the act of terror.

Ayatollah Khamenei and other Iranian officials have offered condolences to the Iranian nation, assuring that the perpetrators of the “outrageous” crime will definitely face punishment.
