Syria in Last 24 Hours: 2 Large Army Divisions Leave Idlib for Sweida to Defeat ISIL

The Syrian army sent two large military divisions from Idlib to the Southern province of Sweida, sources disclosed.

“The Syrian Arab Army’s 5th and 9th divisions were redeployed from Idlib to al-Safa region in Sweida province,” a military source said.

The source said that these two divisions were deployed to al-Safa region to aid the 3rd Corps and 10th Division in their quest to eliminate the ISIL terrorists in southern Syria.

Meantime, the Syrian army continued its military advances in other parts of Syria over the past 24 hours.

Tens of terrorists were killed and dozens more were injured during the Syrian army’s operations in provinces across Syria.

Sweida

Two large Syrian Arab Army (SAA) divisions reportedly left Idlib this weekend for the southern province of Sweida, a military source reported.

According to the military source, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th and 9th divisions were redeployed from Idlib to al-Safa region, the AMN reported.

The source said that these two divisions were deployed to al-Safa region to aid the 3rd Corps and 10th Division in their quest to eliminate the ISIL terrorists in southern Syria.

Among the units deployed with this massive convoy to southern Syria is the 9th Division’s Shock Troops; they played a critical role in the Syrian Arab Army’s success in Eastern Ghouta, Dara’a, and Quneitra offensives.

More reinforcements are expected to be redeployed from Idlib Sweida in the coming days, as the need for troops in northwestern Syria is no longer as pressing.

Deir Ezzur

A number of civilians were killed and wounded by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces in Southeastern Deir Ezzur as tensions between people and the SDF have heightened in the region.

Field sources reported on Monday that a large number of residents in the town of Sweidan in Southeastern Deir Ezzur rallied against the SDF.

They added that the SDF forces fired live rounds at the protestors and surrounded the town, detaining several civilians.

The sources said that the protest rallies were held after the SDF militants destroyed the trade centers of the town, adding that a child was killed and a number of other civilians were wounded in the SDF attack.

Aleppo

The Kurdish militias launched fresh attacks on the Ankara-backed militants in Afrin region in Northwestern Aleppo, inflicting more losses on the gunmen, a Kurdish-language media outlet reported on Monday.

Hawar news reported that the Kurds targeted the positions of the Ankara-backed Ahrar al-Sharqiyah in a region between Rajou and Jandaris, killing and wounding three militants.

In the meantime, one of the gunmen of the Ankara-backed Faylaq al-Sham was killed after other units of the Kurdish militias attacked the militants.

A T55 tank of Faylaq al-Sham was destroyed and a militant was killed in the Kurds’ attack on the Ankara forces between the villages of Qazawi and Iska in Jandaris.

Meanwhile, other units of the Kurdish militia targeted a vehicle of Faylaq al-Sham along a road connecting Kavandi to Qazi in Mobata region, killing four militants and wounding two more.

Lattakia

An armed drone launched by terrorist groups in Eastern Idlib was shot down by the Syrian Army in Northern Lattakia countryside.

The attack, the second this week, was carried out nearly one week after Russia and Turkey concluded an agreement about the terrorist-held Idlib province, the AMN Reported.

Using zu-23mm heavy machine gun, the Syrian forces managed to shoot down the drone and foiled the attack.

A similar attack was launched on Friday, wounding 8 Syrian servicemen, according to the Russian Center for Reconciliation.

According to sources, the armed drones used in northern Lattakia assault are the same which had repeatedly hit the Russian airbase at Humeimim.

Idlib

Tahrir al-Sham Hay’at (the Levant Liberation Board or the Al-Nusra Front) is preparing for an imminent offensive against the Syrian Army in Idlib province to sabotage implementation of Sochi agreement, an Arab media outlet reported on Monday.

Syria’s al-Watan daily quoted well-informed sources as reporting that Tahrir al-Sham has been preparing its gunmen in the last two days to kick off a heavy attack on the army in Idlib.

It further said that Tahrir al-Sham has kept fighters on alert along the entire roads to Idlib, specially along the road between Ban al-Hawa passageway at border with Syria and the town of Saraqib in Southeastern Idlib, adding that the terrorist group has also dispatched a large volume of military hardware to its positions in Southeastern Idlib, the town of Kobani in Jabal al-Turkmen in Northeastern Lattakia.

It went on to say that the terrorists of Horas al-Deen have opposed strongly the Sochi agreement and called on the other terrorist groups to join attacks on the army rapidly to push the Sochi agreement into failure.

The daily further said that a fresh wave of differences have erupted among terrorists over the Sochi agreement and demilitarized zone in Idlib.
