347740_pollA new poll has found that four-fifth of US residents rated the state of the country negatively.

The poll conducted by Harris Interactive found that 80 percent of Americans would give the United States negative ratings, the pollsters said in a release Friday.

Harris Interactive polled 2,047 adults online between January 17 and 21 and also found that respondents felt negatively on six specific issues: 61 percent rated the overall state of the environment in the US negatively; 67 percent gave the US education system a negative rating; 71 percent gave a negative ratings for healthcare; 74 percent also rated economy negatively; 75 percent said the same of immigration and 78 percent negatively rated jobs, according to UPI.

The poll comes as President Barack Obama is preparing for the State of the Union address. According to the survey, just 28 percent of respondents plan on watching Obama’s address Tuesday night.

When asked what they would like to hear during Obama’s speech, 56 percent of respondents said the economy, while 43 percent said jobs and 38 percent said healthcare.

Another poll by Fox News last week showed that only a third of voters approve of Obama and his policies, which is a sharp drop from the 47 percent of Americans who approved of his policies in October 2012.

Moreover, 62 percent of the American people now say they ‘dislike’ the US president’s performance, up from 51 percent one month before his re-election.

According to the poll, a majority of Americans, 74 percent, believe that their country is still in a recession.
