West must state stance on Israel nukes

An Iranian lawmaker urges the West to declare its stance on Israel’s nuclear warheads ahead of upcoming multifaceted talks between Iran and the six major world powers.

“Iran believes that talks are aimed at establishing peace and friendship in the world and above all Western states should express their views on the nuclear warheads of the Zionist regime [of Israel],” IRNA quoted a member of the Parliament (Majlis) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Fatemeh Alia, as saying on Sunday.

Israel, widely believed to be the sole possessor of a nuclear arsenal in the Middle East with over 200 undeclared nuclear warheads, pursues the policy of “deliberate ambiguity” on its nuclear program and has rejected global demands to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty or allow inspections of its controversial nuclear program.

The Iranian lawmaker added that Iran would hold no talks on nuclear technology “because this issue has been finished for Iran and the Islamic Republic is currently among nuclear countries.”

The lawmaker emphasized that the Islamic Republic would go ahead with talks with the P5+1 — China, France, Russia, Britain and the US plus Germany — to find out ways for better global management.
