Poll: Majority of Turks Believe Erdogan more Authoritarian

erdogan-beirutA poll result, posted on the website of a Turkish media source on Monday, indicated that the majority of Turks believe that Recep Tayyib Erdogan’s cabinet is more authoritarian and intervenes more in the citizens’ life style.

Conducted by Metropole Institute, the poll revealed that 49.9% of the surveyed people feel that the government became more authoritarian, 36% believe it is heading towards more democracy, while 14.1% refused to give their opinion.

The result indicated that 54.5% of the people believe that the government intervenes more in the citizens’ life style, while 40.4% believe the contrary.

The poll also showed that about 62.9% of the polled people want to keep the Gezi Park in Istanbul as green piece, while denouncing what they called “an authoritarian act” by the government. However, 23.3% of the polled citizens support the restoration of Ottoman barrack in place of the park to receive commercial and cultural centers.
