Pope Francis Passes Away at 88, Announces Vatican

Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of the Catholic Church, has passed away at 88, as confirmed by the Vatican.

Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, has announced that Pope Francis passed away on Monday morning.

Farrell remarked that his life was wholly devoted to serving the Lord and the Church.

He imparted the importance of adhering to Gospel values with steadfastness, bravery, and a comprehensive love, particularly towards the impoverished and those on the fringes of society.

The passing of the pontiff occurred just a day following his brief appearance before thousands of attendees gathered at St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican for Easter Sunday celebrations.

During the customary Easter address, an aide delivered the message while he observed from a wheelchair. Subsequently, he was escorted on a drive around St. Peter’s Square.

The Vatican has reported that the Pope, who has been managing a chronic lung disease, was admitted to the hospital in February following a respiratory crisis that escalated into double pneumonia.

Following a five-week course of medical treatment, he was released from the hospital last month.

The Catholic Church’s highest-ranking officials, the College of Cardinals, are tasked with selecting the new Pope.
