Potential deal could see Kurdish forces transfer power to Syrian gov’t in northern Aleppo

A Syrian government source informed Al-Masdar News on Friday that negotiations are taking place regarding the possible transfer of power of the Afrin Canton to the Syrian security forces.

Part of the deal will allow the Syrian security forces to open a headquarters in the Afrin Canton, as they currently have no presence inside this region in northern Aleppo.

The source stated that the role of the YPG (People’s Protection Units) is unknown to him, but it would not be far fetched to see a power sharing deal between the Syrian government and PYD that would mimic similar agreements in Al-Qamishli and Al-Hasakah.
