Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai has ordered an investigation into a night raid carried out in eastern Afghanistan by US-led foreign troops, which led to the death of three Afghan brothers.

The order came after an Afghan governor confirmed the operation and said the victims had been in a taxi when foreign forces opened fire on them in Logar province late Saturday.

The latest incident of violence came after on January 23, US-led local and international forces killed the wife of a district council chairman in an overnight raid in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Kapisa.

The woman was killed after officials received a tip-off that militants were hiding in the house of Anar Joy District Council Chairman, Mohammad Na’im.

Officials claimed that the forces had launched the raid after militants opened fire on them from Na’im’s house, but there were no reports of militants being present after the operation.

Over the past few months, night raids by the US-led forces have resulted in civilian casualties in Afghanistan. The raids have increased tension between Washington and Kabul.

Afghans have expressed outrage at the attacks by holding demonstrations throughout the country.

The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 under the pretext of war on terror. The invasion removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity rages on across the country.
