According to IRIB, Salehi said “The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that regional security will be provided within the framework of collective security by the countries in the region.”
The Iranian foreign minister made the remarks at a preliminary meeting of the Persian Gulf Supreme Council, which was held with the presence of Iranian ambassadors to the Persian Gulf littoral states, governors of the Persian Gulf littoral provinces and other officials in Tehran on Sunday.
Salehi added, “Any kind of insecurity and instability in the region will harm the stability, security and economic expansion of all regional countries.”
He also underlined the importance of developing ties, particularly in the field of economy and trade, with the Persian Gulf states and called for greater efforts to tap into Iran’s vast capacities for such relations.
He said “The Islamic Republic of Iran has constantly sought to expand and deepen all-out relations with its neighboring countries based on the principles of mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of others.”
Earlier in the day, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addressed the meeting and expressed Iran’s willingness to expand multilateral relations with the Persian Gulf countries.
