In response to a question about the reason of Russia for delays in launching Bushehr nuclear power plant, Salehi said when they wanted to sign agreement with IRI, they proposed to construct a new Russian power plant in Bushehr site but Iran insisted to complete the power plant.

He added due to infiltration of damp air to pipes and installations and the attack to the power plant during the Iraqi imposed war it suffered heavy damages and it was a reason that its launch has taken time.

Salehi noted that the designing of Russians and Germans in building nuclear power plants are very different and it is another factor for delaying the completion of the Bushehr power plant.

Germany started building the plant based on a contract with Iran in 1975.

Referring to Russian officials’ remarks about completing the power plant till March 2010, he vowed to have good news about the issue till September 2010.

He said experts are conducting important and final tests in the installations.

The AEOI Chief further said Russians are seriously building Bushehr nuclear power plant and there is no deliberate postponement in this regard.

Over the safety of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, Salehi said the Islamic Republic of Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency and Russia agreed to be accountable for security of the power plant.

In response to a question about the role of Norwegian experts in building the plant, he said they indirectly cooperate with IRI on safety issues including providing financial aid and training man powers.

He also added the Japanese also expressed their willingness to participate in construction of power plants in Iran, and said it was an interesting proposal because the Japanese have cautious policy on the issue.

Tehran and Tokyo are discussing the cooperation, Salehi said.

Over finding ten new sites for construction of nuclear power plants in Iran, he said the organization has given two months by the government to find the proper places.

Five sites have been selected after primary examinations and some tests are needed to be done to finalize them, he concluded.
