Qatar urges implementation of security agreement with Iran

Qatari Minister of State for Interior Affairs Abdallah bin Nasir bin Khalifa Al Thani in a meeting with Iranian Envoy to Doha Abdullah Sohrabi called for the implementation of a cooperation agreement signed between the two countries in area of security.

“The implementation of the agreement will lead to further development and expansion of cooperation between the two countries,” Khalifa Al Thani stressed on Monday.

Referring to the good and friendly relations between Iran and Qatar, he reiterated that the development and expansion of cooperation between the two countries’ interior ministries, reciprocal visits by both countries’ officials, endorsement of security agreements and regular meetings of the two countries’ border guard and drug campaign officials have helped consolidate the bilateral ties between the two Persian Gulf littoral states.

During the meeting, Sohrabi pointed to the efforts made for the further reinvigoration of ties between the two countries, and said, “Deepening and consolidating the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Qatari government serves the interests and benefits of all the regional countries nations.”

Iran and Qatar have recently augmented efforts to further expand ties and cooperation in all the different political, economic, defense and security fields.

The two Persian Gulf littoral states recently signed several protocols to increase mutual cooperation, specially in different areas of security.

In February, Iran and Qatar had signed a defense deal during Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi’s visit to Doha.

Also, Qatar’s Crown Prince was in Iran in the same month and held talks with Iranian top officials, including President Ahmadinejad, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Secretary Saeed Jalili and First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi.
