Qur’an desecration lunacy

Senior Iranian cleric Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati has condemned the blasphemous act of Qur’an-burning by a number of US adventurists as “lunacy” and a sign of US weakness.

“Do you think the Qur’an belongs to Iran that you torch it?” Tehran’s interim Friday Prayers leader rhetorically asked.

“The Qur’an belongs to 1.5 billion Muslims and belongs to one generation after the other until the Judgment Day,” he stated.

The cleric was referring a sacrilegious move by anti-Islam extremists in the United States who tore pages and burned copies of the Muslim holy book on the 9th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks in New York.

The blasphemous act sparked furor among Muslims across the world and triggered massive street protests in many countries where angry demonstrators called on the US government to prosecute those behind the desecration.

Ayatollah Jannati blamed the 9/11 attacks on arrogant masterminds who intended to defame Islam. “They fabricated the 9/11 but opinion polls indicate 84 percent of American people believed the [US] government itself is behind this move (the 9/11 attacks).”

The senior cleric described the Qur’an as a “book of justice and righteousness” and attributed the burning of the holy book to the frustration of arrogant powers with the progress in Iran and Islamic awakening in the world

“Those who enjoy logic never move to burn the Qur’an,” the cleric concluded, saying that such prejudiced acts against the holy book would only make it more popular in the world.
