Citizens block main streets in Ramallah to protest against Fayyad

Palestinian citizens blocked yesterday a number of main streets in the city of Ramallah in protest at price rises in the West Bank.

Local sources told the PIC reporter in the city that large numbers of demonstrators blocked the Manara Square and two other streets in the city of Ramallah.

The demonstrators raised banners demanding the Prime Minister, Salam Fayyad, to resign for failing to resolve the economic problems in West Bank. They also demanded the authority of Ramallah to cancel the Paris Convention, which caused deep economic damage to the Palestinian economy.

Meanwhile, a Palestinian in his thirties tried to set fire to himself and his little daughter, at the Manara roundabout in Ramallah in protest at the wave of price rises and the poor conditions.

Eyewitnesses said that a number of protestors quickly intervened and stopped him from burning himself.

West Bank cities have been witnessing since few days daily demonstrations and sit-ins against Ramallah government in the West Bank.
