Refugees rally outside UNRWA headquarters in protest at its food cuts

The popular committees in Gaza refugee camps organized on Sunday morning a sit-in outside the main headquarters of the UNRWA in Gaza city in protest at the steps it has taken to reduce and suspend the humanitarian aid it provides for the refugees in the Strip.

This sit-in took place after the refugee committees of the Hamas Movement and the Palestine liberation organization (PLO) agreed on pooling their efforts and organize joint events aimed at restoring the rights of the refugees, which UNRWA has taken away from them.

Several refugees carried banners supporting their rights and calling on UNRWA to backtrack on its new measures that led to the reduction and suspension of regular aid services in refugee camps.

At the end of the protest, member of the joint committee for refugees Jamal Abu Habel handed Filippo Grandi, the commissioner-general of UNRWA, a letter that includes demands and objections regarding its latest steps that affected the delivery of humanitarian aid to many Palestinian refugees in the besieged Gaza Strip.
