Rouhani to Western Media: Sanctions Illegal, Nuclear Deal within 3 to 6 Months

Hasan RouhaniPresident of the Islamic Republic of Iran Sheikh Hassan Rouhani said that the sanctions imposed on Iran are illegal and inhumane, accentuating that the Nuclear file solution should see light within 3 to 6 months.

“In principle, we regard the sanctions as illegal and inhumane because the sanctions are exerting pressure on the [Iranian] people and the sick and have a negative impact on the lives of children,” Rouhani said in an interview with the American PBS channel on Wednesday.

“We believe that sanctions are not an appropriate solution [to the Western dispute over Iran’s nuclear energy program] and cannot resolve any problems,” the Iranian president stated.

He added that Iran seeks a solution that would guarantee the nation’s legitimate rights and, at the same time, ally potential concerns.
“The Iranian nation does not seek anything beyond its legal right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes,” he said.
Rouhani highlighted “Iran is a signatory to the NPT (Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty) and all of its nuclear activities are in accordance with the Agency (IAEA)’s Safeguards.”

He stated as well that nuclear energy has turned into the symbol of the Iranian nation’s advancement in making use of modern technologies.
Moreover, in an interview with the US daily Washington Post on Wednesday, Sheikh Rouhani iterated “The only way forward is for a timeline to be inserted into the negotiations that’s short.”

“If it’s 3 months, that would be Iran’s choice, if it’s 6 months that’s still good. It’s a question of months not years,” he said, adding that his administration seeks a “short” timeline to settle the dispute as it would be more beneficial to everyone.
Rouhani said his administration has “full authority” to negotiate anything that can guarantee Iran’s security and national interests, including any necessary cooperation with the international community to help settle the crisis in Syria.
He added that Iran would enter any talks or meetings, including Geneva II, “as long as there are no preconditions for Iran’s participation.”

The US, “Israel” and their allies point fingers at Iran constantly, claiming it pursues non-civilian and non-peaceful objectives in its n-energy program.
Yet, Iran has repeatedly rejected these allegations and assured it is a committed member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), by that entitled to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
