Unknown men torch NATO truck in SW Pakistan

A group of unidentified armed militants has torched a NATO supply container carrying equipment for NATO soldiers in southwestern Pakistan, security officials say.

According to the officials, unknown gunmen, riding on motorcycles fired at the truck in Choto area of Balochistan’s troubled Mastung province on Saturday.

Balochistan’s levies officials explained that the container was attacked when it was on its way from Karachi’s Port Qasim to provide equipment for US-led NATO forces in neighboring Afghanistan.

The driver and the cleaner of the truck were injured in the attack and taken to a hospital in Quetta for treatment.

No group has claimed responsibility for the assault yet, though local officials blame the attack on pro-Taliban militants.

Pro-Taliban militants have destroyed hundreds of vehicles in northwestern and southwestern Pakistan over the past years.

The militants say the attacks were in reprisal for US drone strikes on Pakistan’s tribal belt.

Eighty percent of NATO supplies are transported to war-torn Afghanistan through Pakistan.

The supply line has become increasingly vulnerable to militant attacks in recent months.
