Salehi: Iran independence irks US

Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi says the United States is annoyed with Iran’s independence and might, and fails to reject its top-down view of other countries.

The US “cannot accept that a country like Iran has a geostrategic position and enjoys immense resources,” Salehi told IRNA on Thursday, adding that America finds it difficult to acknowledge Iran’s ‘elated’ position in the international arena and political transactions.

This, the top Iranian official noted, has edged the United States to resort to a range of measures in its bid to align Tehran with Washington polices.

Salehi further pointed out that the US should review its approach to the Islamic Republic, relinquish its hegemonistic stance and respect Iran’s rights.

The Iranian foreign minister added that so far as the United Sates acts a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing,’ there will not be any political negotiations between the two countries.

Head of Iran’s Foreign Ministry noted that Washington is inclined to view Iran as a monarchy that was toppled decades ago. He said the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran was one for autonomy and emancipated the country from ‘the yoke of hegemony.’

Iranians toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime 32 years ago, ending the 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.
