Hakeem in meeting with Maliki calls to refrain from sectarian tendency
Leader of Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council (SIIC), Ammar al-Hakeem, called for refrain from sectarian tendency, rather to consolidate national harmony.

A statement issued on Tuesday, Jan. 8, by the SIIC quoted Hakeem during his meeting, earlier in the day, with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, saying that the demonstrations the western and southern parts country is witnessing, as well as other parts, reflect a healthy situation and a constitutional right. He described sectarian slogans raised during the protests of being mistakes that everyone wishes them disappear.

He asserted that Iraq’s democratic experiment has by passed other experiments in the area, making it capable of fulfilling the peoples’ demands.

For his part, Maliki renewed, in the press conference after meeting, adopting dialogue and the Constitution an entrance to solve problems. Dialogue and the Constitution provide base for all crisis; current crisis is solvable if all sit to talk together making the Constitution source for solving all problems.

He pointed out forming a seven-member committee at the cabinet, headed by the Deputy Prime Minister, to receive the protestors’ demands that do not contradict the Constitution; classify them and distribute them to concerned bodies, such as provincial councils, Parliament, the judiciary and cabinet.
