Saudi Arabia secret ties with Israel, kiss of death

Saudi Arabia’s secret diplomatic ties with Israel to unite against Iran are to be seen as “kiss of death” for the kingdom, an analyst tells Press TV.

It “is really proving to be the kiss of death for the Saudis, should they pursue this policy of engaging with Israel. I mean this would be very, very irresponsible. It is incredibly unpopular across the region and I think that this is where they are going incredibly wrong,” Hafsa Kara-Mustapha told Press TV on Wednesday.

The remarks came after Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said on Monday that Tel Aviv has been holding secret talks with some Arab countries including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in an effort to create diplomatic ties to unite against Iran.

Lieberman also said the talks would be no longer “secret” within a year and would be conducted openly.

Kara-Mustapha stressed that member states of the [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council need to change their direction regarding relations with Iran.

“It is essential to realize that actually good relations with Iran are going to be much more fruitful and I think there would be much more popular across the Middle East and the wider Muslim World,” she said.

She noted that it would be more reasonable for an Arab or Muslim country to have closer ties with a “fellow Muslim country such as Iran, than to have anything to do with … Israel,” as it would be “very beneficial to the long-term stability and peace across the Middle East and the wider Muslim World.”
