U.S. Media sources said that the Saudi intelligence chief Prince Bandar bin Sultan, will be substituted for the Saudi Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, in the process of arming the fighters in Syria.
David Ignatius wrote in the Washington Post that leaders in the Western and Arab intelligence, met in Washington for two days last week, in an attempt to coordinate the operations of supporting the militants.
The American writer added, it seems that the Saudi Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, who prepared for the secret meeting, has become the main supervisor on the issue of Saudi Arabia’s secret arming, where the intelligence chief Prince Bandar bin Sultan has been replaced.
The American writer considered that the new role of prince Mohammed reflects the growing concerns of Saudi Arabia and other countries of the growing strength of al-Qaida within the Syrian opposition. As part of his work as interior minister, he coordinates counter-terrorism, and this makes him in constant contact with the CIA and other Western intelligence agencies.
Ignatius pointed out to a meeting held between Prince Mohammed and U.S. National Security Advisor Susan Rice to discuss this strategy, but sources indicated that Obama is still hesitant about any escalation in Syria, which may lead to a direct U.S. involvement.
Ignatius said that the leaders of Arab intelligence demanded the CIA to exceed the number of those who has been training in Jordan in the current month over than 250, but the U.S. officials have said that they want to make sure of the ability of the armed groups to accommodate them first.
