Saudi Crown Prince and Iran’s FM Engage in Productive Dialogue on Bilateral Relations and Regional Security

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi engaged in "fruitful" discussions with senior officials from Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea port city of Jeddah. The talks covered a variety of topics, focusing on enhancing security and stability throughout the West Asian region.

Saudi Arabia’s official news agency, SPA, reported that Araghchi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman convened at the al-Salam Palace in Jeddah on Tuesday. The discussions focused on the relationship between Tehran and Riyadh, along with an assessment of recent developments in the region.

The Iranian Foreign Minister extended his gratitude to the kingdom for its condemnation of Israeli actions against the Islamic Republic. He also expressed appreciation for Bin Salman’s efforts and initiatives aimed at enhancing regional security and stability.

The Saudi Crown Prince conveyed Riyadh’s optimism regarding the US-brokered unilateral ceasefire agreement, expressing hopes that it would foster conditions conducive to regional security and stability.

Bin Salman reiterated the kingdom’s commitment to resolving conflicts through diplomatic dialogue and peaceful means.

In the early hours of June 13, Israeli forces initiated a significant offensive targeting Iran’s military and civilian infrastructure, resulting in substantial casualties, including the loss of hundreds of lives. Among the deceased were women, children, and several high-ranking military officials.

In retaliation, the Iranian Armed Forces, under the leadership of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), initiated a formidable and unprecedented campaign titled Operation True Promise III. This operation targeted crucial military, intelligence, industrial, energy, and research and development facilities within the occupied territories of Israel.

The United States, having engaged in discussions with Tehran regarding its peaceful nuclear program since April, launched a series of anti-Iran strikes on June 22, focusing on several critical nuclear sites. This U.S. action prompted an immediate response from the Islamic Republic, which retaliated with strikes on a significant American military base located in Qatar.

On June 24, Israel was compelled to announce a unilateral cessation of its aggressive actions, with the announcement made on its behalf by Trump.

“Productive discussions”

On Tuesday, Araghchi conducted discussions with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, as well as with the Kingdom’s Minister of Defense, Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement emphasizing that Araghchi and Farhan engaged in discussions centered on the latest regional developments and initiatives aimed at ensuring security and stability in the region.

Saudi Arabia’s defense minister announced in a post on X that discussions with the Iranian foreign minister have taken place, focusing on multiple elements of cooperation between Riyadh and Tehran.

In his statement, he noted that the discussions encompassed multiple dimensions of their collaborative efforts. Conversations also covered regional events and initiatives aimed at enhancing security and stability, alongside several other subjects of shared concern, as per his social media post.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced on X that FM Araghchi engaged in “fruitful conversations” with Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman, Foreign Minister Amir Faisal bin Farhan, and Defense Minister Amir Khaled bin Salman. The discussions focused on the Iran-Saudi bilateral ties and the latest regional developments, during a recent meeting in Jeddah with the Iranian foreign minister.

Saudi Arabia has denounced the recent Israeli strikes on Iran, labeling them as a “clear violation of international laws.”

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has issued a statement vehemently condemning the recent Israeli actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Saudi foreign ministry described these actions as blatant aggressions that undermine Iran’s sovereignty and security, further stating they represent a clear breach of international laws and norms.
